Having grown up in NSW, my lumion landscape was inspired by Govett's Leap in the Blue Mountains region. I had the opportunity to hike this trail when I did the Duke of Ed. Award and it was a great experience.

I read 3 articles and came up with these ideas .. still needs work but here is what I have so far: 

Possible Theory: "Outside the box, connect the dots"

(encouraging people to extend beyond their fields of knowledge and learn from one another) 

- Architecture's ability to shape tomorrow's places is more significant than its role in producing buildings.

- Architecture is not just about the act of building, but also about the building of relationships between people.  

- Architecture should encourage us to think about the abundance of knowledge that is present within society, and how knowledge from different fields can be utilised to achieve a common vision. We should strive to step out of our disciplinary comfort zones, and learn by collaborating with one another. Good things come in small packages, and we must acquire the skills to seek out and harness everyone's abilities.  

- In the field of engineering, it is important to be able to see the key elements of problems, to be systematic and logical and to persevere. 

- Technology is bridging gaps in communication between architects and engineers. Architectural-computing have become increasingly important to developing innovation in design and practice, especially in the cultivation of diversity.

THEORY VERSION 2 

Good things come in small packages, and should be used to our advantage.

Architecture encourages us to step out of our our disciplinary comfort zones, and learn by collaborating with one another through activities such as workshops. It  is important to be able to see the key elements of problems, to be systematic and logical, whilst also being innovative in design and practice. This cultivation of diversity will allow us to generate new and interesting solutions to improve society. 

*Other Idea for a Possible Theory 

As abstract art forms based on rhythm, proportion and harmony, architecture and music share a clear cultural lineage. Now, through digital expression, architecture can attain new heights of creative supremacy.

With this in mind, we should step out of our disciplinary comfort zones and by collaborate with one another through activities such as workshops, like musicians in an orchestra.  This will lead to a cultivation of diversity that will allow for the generation of new and interesting ideas.

Future architects* will be able see the key elements of problems, to be systematic and logical, whilst also being innovative in design and practice.

Electroliquid Aggregation

The blurring of boundaries between small and monumental elements from disorientation sparks the development of broader minded perspectives, allowing people from different backgrounds to understand each other better.

Electroliquid Aggregations (Right Column) 

1)  horizontal displacement and expansion of different verticality forms creates a space that is playful in light and shadow. 

2) The blurring of boundaries between small and monumental elements from disorientation sparks the development of broader minded perspectives, allowing people from different backgrounds to understand each other better.

3) The interplay between overlapping geometry and indeterminate outlines of space reminds of the importance of unity and harmony in our opinions and actions.

36 Textures 

Chosen Textures

 Light: This swirling, curving pattern can be seen in the circulation of the monument. Initially confusing, it encourages us to persevere and think more openly.

Medium: Used to define the meeting space, the alternation between blanks squares and dark squares and between horizontal and vertical lines suggest that a fusion may eventually take place (like ideas).











Dark: This texture was initially a set of interlocking zigzags and was inspired by the inseparability of black from white. It is applied only at the extremities of the monuments when viewed from different perspectives.

The monuments are situated on a lake at the edge of the surrounding mountains. 

Visitors must take the ramp at the bottom in order to get to the "meeting point". 

Not evident from the previous image, the path is guided by the geometry of the first monument. This disorientation tests the patience of the visitors..

 The vertical beam is the part of the 2nd monument and encloses a set of stairs which lead to the highest level.

This is the most extreme point, where we are closest to physically "touching" the landscape but the balcony prevents us from going further. However the shadow could be seen as having already achieved this, and we are reminded of the beauty of nature by the waterfall.

Use of the space at nighttime. The stairs reaching the meeting point are not visible from all sides whilst the stairs in the vertical beam are completely concealed.

These two curved benches are supposed to embrace one another, to encourage the exchange of ideas.

 

36 Textures + Alternative Idea (Electroliquid Aggregation)

Here are the 36 textures ranging from Light to Dark. 

I achieved darker textures by gradually increasing the number and intensity of elements. 

Alternative Idea 

In last week's tutorial, I had an idea for another pair of concepts: 

1) Absence of Distinct Orientation 

2) Modularity blurring distinction between small and monumental 

The blurring of small and monumental from disorientation encourages the development of broader perspectives. 

Elements will almost "touch" the landscape. The engineers and architect will have to arrive by boat.. stairs (or ramps) would be necessary for circulation.

Possible ideas in regards to Electroliquid Aggregation .. 

Definition from the lecture:   “Why still speak of the real and the virtual, the material and immaterial? Here these categories are not in opposition, or in some metaphysical disagreement, but more in an electroliquid aggregation, enforcing each other, as in a two part adhesive.”

I tried subdividing/smoothing other parts of the model and this is what it looked like: 

EXPERIMENT 2: THE SPACE BETWEEN (Week 1)

Week 1 

Our class came up with concepts for the architects Ricardo Porro and Aldo Van Eyck. 

To create the axonometrics I used the following 6 concepts from the class brainstorm: 

Porro

Heavy homogenous frames as indeterminate outlines of spaces.

Absence of distinct orientation.

Horizontal expansion vs verticality.

Van Eyck

Unity and Harmonisation of overlapping geometry.

Displacement of different forms to create light and shadow.

Precision in construction but tactility in materiality.

At the moment, Lumion is not working on my laptop, the program keeps crashing every time I open it .. I am in the process of downloading it on a borrowed laptop and hopefully it works. Either way, I will probably need to buy a better one.

Anyway Lumion is successfully working on the other laptop !

Experiment 1 FINAL (The Datum)

The two clients I chose for this submission were Heston Blumenthal and Revival Cycles. I was inspired by Heston's Mandarin Aerated Chocolate and Revival Cycles' Vincent Rapide motorcycle, from which I developed 2 sectional plans based on the words "sponge" and "inquisitive". These words were chosen to describe the immediate spirit of the images below.

I liked the second model and decided to develop that further. 

Final Building 

The top section represents "Inquisitive", incorporating squares and rectangles of different sizes. There is also a small maze leading to a storage room. 

The lower section represents "sponge", taking an irregular yet round shape. 

The two sections come together through a dome like structure. The transparent material in this dome reflects the lightness of the "sponge", yet allows the suspended elements from the ceiling "probe" in.
